Virgil Maynard Kester Sr is the son of Harvey Chord Kester & Nona Viola Dunn Kester. The Flu that hit the world in 1917-1918, killed many of the Kester family members including Harvey Kester. Nona Viola Dunn Kester remarried Leonard "Leo" Caleb Cardwell, who raised Harvey and Nona's two children; Virgil M. Kester Sr. and Erma Muriel Kester. Only Virgil Sr and Erma are brother and sister. Virgil Kester Sr married Myrtle Irene Bailey, she became his wife, Myrtle Irene Kester. Erma M. Kester married Louis "Lou" Leo Haber, and became Erma M. Haber.
