Not only did Mildred Washington have a deceased older sister by the same name (her parents thriftily recycled the name for the next girl child), but she succeeded a wife to Col. Henry "Harry" Willis Col. Henry Willis who was *also* named Mildred!

Unless there has been a major Mixmaster (possible), this was Mildred Lewis, daughter of "Councillor" John Lewis of Warner Hall Mildred Willis - and Willis was her third husband in ten years. (She was his second wife, with Mildred Washington - another unlucky bride - being his third.)

Mildred W. must have been a very kind and diplomatic stepmother. My 6th great-grandmother Mary WIllis Lee named one of her sons Richard Washington Lee in honor of Mildred's family. I also understand that Mildred Howell (wife #2) and Mildred Washington ( #3 )were first cousins.

I haven't sorted out all the Lewis connections yet, so that's possible. Mildred Lewis was a young widow - she can't have been married to John Howell longer than a year or two, and she jumped right back into matrimony with Dr. John Brown. The bumptious Harry Willis had to bide his time.

Ahh, there we are - Mildred L's mother and Mildred W's mother were sisters. So the connection is actually on the Warner side.

I'm confused why this profile is locked with his birth name as Alexander. He married an Alexander but I don't see anything indicating he himself was born an Alexander, was adopted or anything other than born a WIllis.

Found the problem: he's been repeatedly MISmerged *with his first wife* (!).

Col. Henry Willis

We've also got trouble with the Mildreds - one of them has the wrong death date, copypasted from the other.

I did a bit of clean-up around here, including locking of fields & relationships (following up after others had done some work, too) ... are the Mildreds and their families all correct now?
