I discovered this tree today and am pleased to see my great-grandfather's brother, Ole. Thank you. Andreas came to Wisconsin in 1879 and died there in 1929 after having 2 children - both girls. The youngest daughter is my grandmother, Martha. Thank you for all the work that you have done as it fascinates me to see the Norwegian side of the family.
Hello Linda,
You say that Andreas (Andrew) Nilsen Holte is the brother of Ole. Andreas and Ole appear to have two different sets of parents.
Andreas parents are listed as born in the 1830s while Ole's are born in the 1810s. Ole's mother has a maiden name of Nelson, but Andreas' mother has a maiden name of Aasterud.
Is this the right Ole? Perhaps one of the tree has the wrong parents?
Ole is the baptism on top in this page, no. 72: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1094&idx_id=1... Parents are Niels Gundersen and Marie Christophersd. and they are living on the farm Aasterud.
Ole's brother Andreas is here, no 26: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1094&idx_id=1... He is born born January 19th 1855 on the farm Aasterud in Hole, Buskerud, and his parents are Niels Gundersen and Marie Christophersd.
I don't have a clue where the farmname Holte is coming from, both children are born on Aasterud, so their farmname should be Aasterud and not Holte.
Strand in Rogaland is wrong. And it also is in a completely different area of Norway. It is not normal that people living in Hole, Buskerud had contact with anyone living in Strand, Rogaland at this time.
Profileadministrators: Private User and Private User could you fix what is wrong in your profiles and merge the parents, since there seems to be enough evidence that the parents of Ole and Andreas are the same persons.
I sent word to Derek Johnson about the parents of Ole and Andreas. I am convinced that the information on Strand in Rogaland is not right. I know that Andreas arrived in the US as Andrew Nilsen, but sometime later adopted the name Holte. I don't know if it was his own adaptation of Hole, Buskerud that made him adopt the name Holte - I wish I could ask him.
