A shotgun wedding on 18.11.1869 and birth on 14.4.1870. He was training to become a teacher and she was to take over her father's apothecary shop. To keep things respectable the parents purchased a cigar shop for them in Rotterdam. Later on they got another shop in The Hague at the corner of Lange Prinsestraat and Hogewal.
They had 4 children who died before they were 3 years old, not mentioned here. They went on to have many other children.
