The family tradition tells a tale of a family dating back to the days of Charlemagne (800). The name Audier (Audie, Aude, Audié) originates from the river Aude in the south of France (Languedoc). A Pierre Audier was Sénéchal (Sherif) in Limoges in 1217. The family shield has a blue field with thee rampant lions with black spots. In the 1600 a young family member moved to Holland from a noble family in Clerac, France, in order to marry the girl he loved. By doing this, a family legend suggests, he lost his inheritance and title.(Legend supported/heard by Dutch & South African descendants.)Some family trees link Moyse to Jean Audier and Esther Carpentier - no evidence though.
According to the records of ”de Waalse kerk* Rotterdam” Moijse Audier was deleted as a member on 5.9.1745 on grounds of emigration to Philadelphia, USA. (*French speaking protestant church). he must have died before 1762 when Judith died as she is listed as a 'weduwee'(widow). There must have been communication from Moyse (or lawyers) before & after his death but he did not return to fetch his family to join him in the USA as was possibly his original intent or perhaps he was just running away in search of a new beginning or adventure - abandoning his young family.
