Lady Rebecca Gibson (Thompson) - "Lady" Rebecca Thompson

I notice that Rebecca Gibson has been made a Lady. I did the research on her -- see the "About" for my write-up and sources -- and I've never found anything indicating that type of background.

Can anyone verify this? Rev. John James Baird, Sr., maybe you have input?

Tagging her father, Lord William Thompson who has become a Lord.

We may need to research the father she is attached to - he died 1611 and she was born 1613.

Going back through my sources, I think we may need to cut her parents entirely. Her being the daughter of a William Thompson was something gleaned from Roxbury records, but that database linked in the "About" is no longer accessible and I can't find a reference to her birth surname or father anywhere else. Since I can't replicate that research, and since the other cited sources give no known birth surname, I don't think I can stand by that assertion. All we can verify at this point is that she was named Rebecca, she was born in 1613 in England, and she married John Gibson.

We also have in the profile that she immigrated in 1633 with both her parents, but I'm not finding a Rebecca Thompson in manifests for that year. Perhaps someone else might have better luck?

Okay, I've gone ahead and cut her parents and added a curator note. We can add Lord William Thompson and Unknown Thompson if someone finds good sources.

Let's also clear up the contradictory info we have regarding her marriage. The profile currently says she migrated to Massachusetts in 1633 with her parents, but it also says she married John in England in 1634. Let's find some records.

I unmerged Sir John Gibson of Pentland and Alderston from John Gibson, of Cambridge - you might want to consider that the immigrant to Cambridge’s ancestry as currently showing in Geni is unlikely.

Ugh, thanks. That'll be the next project. :)

I seem to recall the Wilson bio of John Gibson being a good one. I'll add it to tomorrow's list. Thanks for flagging, Erica.

I think the Sir may need to be removed from this profile? Also, someone should update his profile, so future people won't confuse this lineage. Many online trees have him wrongly linked to the gentry - with no proof of lineage.

- Annotated this passage the profile:

Disputed Origins

There is no support for this passage:

Sir John Gibson was of noble Scottish lineage from the area Edwice, Fife, Scotland. Brothers Alexander and George were both members of the Scottish parliament. Great-Grandfather Thomas Graig was Lord Advocate and Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh. It is disputed as to whether he was born in England or Scotland.

That refers to Sir John Gibson of Pentland and Alderston

It’s a well known family as Suzan Martin points out.

There is no known relationship with this John Gibson.

“Gibson” is a common name, I have it on my own tree - unrelated to either.

Thanks for the alert.
