I believe I have traced origin of my family (surname Hildesheim) to Elija Schlomo zu Hildesheim (Elias Salomon), the father of David von Hildesheim, who founded a branch of the Wohl family in Frankfurt with his marriage to Sara Wohl in 1620. There is a grave marker in the Teichstrasse cemetery in Hildesheim for Elijahu Schlomo (d. 1620), head of the Jewish community. Elija/Elias is mentioned in books by Alexander Dietz and Cilli Kasper-Holkotte. Is there any other info out there on Elija Schlomo? Are there any other branches of the Hildesheim family descended from Elija Schlomo or other ancestor known to have lived in Hildesheim in the 16th, 17th, or early 18th centuries?

Steinheim-Institut der Deutsch-Jüdische Geschichte has confirmed that Elijahu Schlomo (d. 1620) whose grave marker is mounted on the wall of the Hildesheim Teichstrasse cemetery--the oldest surviving Jewish marker there, having been moved from an older cemetery--is very likely the same individual identified as Elija Schlomo (Elias Salomon) zu Hildesheim on a Frankfurt grave marker (now lost) as the father of David Wol (Wohl) von Hildesheim (d. 1635). It is possible that this individual is also the same as Salomon vom Berg, one of the eleven family heads allowed to resettle in Hildesheim in 1601.
