In a recent attempt to identify the dates of arrival and ships of arrival for some ancestors, I came across the Vrijboek of 1681. Herein the two Olivier brothers are mentioned:

Ocker Cornelissen van Ouwerkerck voor matroos ende
Camer Seelandt anno 1667 pr. 't Wapen van
Middelb: aangelandt

Hendrick Cornelissen van Ouwerkerck voor matroos en
de Camer Zeelandt anno 1667 pr. 't Wapen van Middel-
burgh aangelant

Both brothers arrived on the same ship in 1667. Yet most sources in South Africa give the arrival for Ockert being 1671 and some for his brother being 1674. Are any of you aware of definite and reliable sources that clearly mention arrival being anything other than 1667?

Thomas

Dear Thomas,
According to my source: Ockert Corneliszoon Olivier * Nederland c.1645 arrived in Tafelbaai at the Cape of South Africa in 1671. He was the son of Cornelis Olivier from Ouwer-kerk, Schouwen-Duiveland, Nederland. As a young man he had two children out of wedlock with Maria Janse Visser, wife of Willem Willemse van Deventer. He married Aletta (Alida) Verwey/Verweij (aka Alitie Vermoly) from Woerden, Nederland. Ockert Corneliszoon Olivier died 1705 in Tulbagh, South Africa.
