I have been unable to locate the parents of this Thomas Dudley. I know that there is a clan of Dudleys who disappeared into the woodwork in Virginia as the result of the Revolutionary War, but I have not found a means of recovering the information that was apparently lost. Does anyone have any information on at least the Lost Virginians?

Or anyone else who works early Virginia?

Cuzzin Ñoño I'm sorry, but I'm unfamiliar with this family ... Or with any Dudley's in Virginia, for that matter. Keep plugging away!

Thank you for you help, Cuzzins! It's a bummer, but your help is appreciated.

Nothing conclusive, I'm afraid. There were Dudleys in early Accomack/Northampton, and one family went to North Carolina, where son Edward Bishop Dudley became Governor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bishop_Dudley

"In November 1815 Dudley married Elizabeth Haywood, daughter of William Henry Haywood, Sr., of Raleigh. Elizabeth was the sister of a U.S. senator and of the wife of Charles Manly, who also served as chief executive of North Carolina. The Dudleys had three boys and three girls: Christopher H., William Henry, Edward, Elizabeth Ann, Jane Frances, and Margaret. After Elizabeth died, Dudley married the widow of General John Cowan; they had no children and she survived him. He died five years before the Civil War and was buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington." http://ncpedia.org/biography/dudley-edward-bishop

I rather think this isn't your family, though. :-(

An isolated Lorus Eugene Dudley popped up in Idaho in the 20th century, but I have no idea how he got there.

Haven't found your Thomas Dudley yet, but there are *so many* Dudleys....

Thank you, Cuzzin Maven. My Thomas Dudley was born in Virginia in 1807. He died in Ohio a few months before the Civil War, specifically March 11, 1861 in Lynchburg, Clinton County, Ohio. His wife Lucretia (known as Letitia) Tankersley left trails for my cuzzin Melissa through whom I was able to pick up my genealogy again. Unfortunately, Thomas Dudley's whole identity becomes a mystery - no parents, no siblings, no birth record, no nada. Thomas and Letitia are my 3rd great grandparents.

I would say it's more likely than not that he descends from Edward Dudley, but if the paper trail remains obscure we may never know the details. :-(

I wonder if he has any living male-line descendants, and if they could be/have been talked into a detailed Y-DNA test? That would be quite helpful....

I'm waiting for some unexpected funds to come in. I still don't know how those funds have made their way to me, but I'm going to use my first check to do a DNA test. This is all new to me, so I'm not sure how we'll be able to determine if I am a direct descendant of Edward, but I am indeed a direct descendant of Thomas and Lucretia (Letitia) Tankersley.
