IF you or a relative have had DNA testing, we'd like to compare test results. So far we have found a 5.8 centimorgan match on chromosome 1 for two "paper trail" descendants of this Edward Teague
We need to compare more cousins to confirm & ensure the match is not from other sources. Please join, and spread the word.
Do you have GEDMatch Kit? My cousin is on Ancestry & 23andme as well as GEDMatch. Kurt Brian Harvey what's the easiest way for you to find Esther's test?
My AncestryDNA kit on GEDmatch is A778060
My 23andMe is M405658
I have the raw files of both of them.
I don't have a tree on GENI yet, just was looking around after the announcement about Family Tree being discontinued.
I do have GEDCOMs off my computer tree. I uploaded the GEDCOM to My Heritage tree integrated with 23andMe and ftDNA.
Good morning!
Esther - is it OK to post your kit #'s on the Teague DNA project page?
Erica, I was thinking we should add a link to this discussion on the project page so people who find the project can just post their DNA kits here and we can add them.
Jeff just uploaded his FTDNA kit to GEDMATCH. Here are the kits we have to far:
JEFFERSON "Jeff" GRAY F451033
Barb Teague A192005 (*kiwiroo1) and
Aunt Howton F308783 (*CHowton)
Sarah (Teague) Gray’s descendant A585980 (*GBHC1951)
Esther Farnstrom A778060 M405658
Looks like we match on several chromosomes! I need to look at your tree (I can probably find it on MyHeritage)
http://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000040024228981&
This is awesome.
Erica Howton I'm adding a link to each person's profile on GENI or Wikitree to their GEDMATCH kit on the R-L270-Irish-Type-II-South-Irish. Can you edit the page and add links for the last to kits on GENI? I'm not sure where to find them.
Hey cousin! Nice to find new family...
I don't have much at GENI, and am limited at MyHeritage because I didn't pay for the Premium subscription. I couldn't find the Teague family there.
https://www.myheritage.com/site-individuals-318778821/sparks-langford
I can, however, send you an invitation at AncestryDNA. Do you have a username there or an email I can use? I would like to find our linking family, too.
Esther Langford Farnstrom
Try my cousin Kurt Brian Harvey, he has ancestryDNA. I don't have my own kit yet, working on males & oldest in the family first (hence, Kurt's mom). Do you have an ancestry tree? It shouldn't be difficult to fill in a few profiles on Geni to get your tree complete, and then we can more easily see our overlapping families. I go from Teague > Swearingen > Barnes > Lawson.
Erica, I couldn't find a DNA match for Kurt Brian Harvey. Does he have a username? I am nebraskanswede.
I did find a search for data under his name..... Hawaii or Tuolumne California? If it is Tuolumne, he is just east from where I live.
I can fill in the lineage from me to you to get started here. I was just working at that connection on my desktop FTM.
I looked up my brothers paternal Haplogroup from 23andMe. It is R1b1b2a1a1 -- our maternal is H3
Like Esther Farnstrom (message today, 4:50), I am not a Geni.com Pro member, so I have very little in my tree on this site.
Having uploaded my AncestryDNA to GEDmatch earlier this week, I haven't been able to do "One-to-many" comparisons. However, it states I can do "One-to-One". I entered three kit numbers shown in this discussion thread and, unfortunately, I don't see a match with any.
This is disappointing because I have long believed the "Sarah" who was married to William Gray (d. 1815, Laurens/ Newberry, SC) was Joshua Teague's daughter. Though no sources provide her date of birth, many Ancestry.com trees show it was 1770.
Thanks for inviting me to participate, Erica. Best wishes to everyone. Austin Gray
Austin - When you lower the threshold from defaults, there is indeed match in chromosome 1. I'll post some tests shortly.
We are looking at a distance of 7-9 generations, using autosomnal tests. Test results "may not" match, and that would not rule out at all; it just means we got a different random collection in our toss of the genetic dice. That's why we are trying to assemble as many cousins as we can.
Nathaniel Austin Gray can you post your GEDMATCH kit number and your line of descent?
Also you don't need to be a pro or paid user of GENI to add your line to the Teague family on GENI.
That is correct - cousins this far separated may not share genetic segments. So what we would want to do instead is categorize each lineage and see if GEDMATCH kits from closer cousins on the same lineage match each other (or not) and work our way up each lineage. If we don't see a match between any of the closer cousins on the same proposed lineage we have a problem. Also those lineages that have already been tested with Y DNA testing that match the other pool of testers are already proven to be from the same male lineage. So in those cases you would want to use GEDMATCH to prove your connection to the proven part of the male line. Or alternately do Y DNA testing on your closest male Teague relative and then prove your relationship to him.
Roland Baker, thanks for your response. Also, thank you Erica for giving me reason to be a bit more encouraged than I was yesterday. I'm just now beginning to learn about how GEDmatch works.
My GEDmatch kit number is A585980,
My line of descent from Edward (as I've constructed it on my large family tree on Ancestry.com) goes from Edward Teague > William Abel Teague > Joshua Teague > Sarah Teague > Abraham Gray > Hosea Gray > Latimer Gray > Hosea P Gray, Sr. > Hosea P Gray, Jr (my father who died in 2010).
Since I have no idea who any living male Teague relatives are at this time, I'm not able to do a Y DNA test, if I understand correctly your suggestion. Perhaps over the next week or so, as I move forward with my new status on GEDmatch (ability to do One-to-Many comparisons), I will find that elusive cousin.
I also hope to confirm the William Gray who married Sarah Teague is indeed "my" William Gray whose 1816 Estate papers reveal to be the father of my 3XG grandfather, Abraham Gray (same as it shows in Sarah's Will, dated 1834).
Thank you! I look forward to future discussions and discoveries!
Austin I've added your kit to the pool here:
http://www.geni.com/projects/R-L270-Irish-Type-II-South-Irish/31754
Everyone should feel free to join the project page and edit it and add your kit number. Just ask if you need help doing the edit.
Austin don't get discouraged. When I first took my DNA test I had very few matches I could pin down on my dad's side. It turns out hardly anyone from that side of the family had tested. So I tracked down all my cousins and started testing them and then everything fell into place. Testing your second cousins would really help because then you can pin down more distant matches to specific grandparents. But we'll collect more kits and maybe you'll find another descendant of Sarah Teague that you match to.
Wow Esther Farnstrom - Geni says: Esther Farnstrom is your fifth cousin four times removed.
!!!

I think our Teague match is chromosome 1. Now to confirm ...
http://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search_adb/?action=full... doesn't show either Sarah under Joshua, but I bet we cab find them through other patriots.
@Edward Teague
I came across a large pdf. file I downloaded months ago and had forgotten about during this discussion. It is a 703 page document which Erica Howton referred to in a Sep 8, 2015 post regarding "The Teague Family Magazine".
It took me a little while to find Joshua Teague's daughter, Sarah, shown in my family tree as being married to my 4G grandfather, William Gray. This document was authored or compiled by John D. Anderson; email: janders981@sbcglobal.net. I apologize for not being able to provide a link.
You will find Joshua I. Teague (1732 - 1804), son of William Abel Teague, and his family members on pages 16 - 18. This document includes several pages of sources listed at the end. Although I am not an experienced genealogist, it seems to be an extremely valuable key to answering many questions regarding the Teague lineage.
I will send the pdf. doc to you, Erica, for your review; however, I'm sure you've seen it. Regardless, I hope it is helpful.
I would like to see it, since now we have a question.
In trees I see Sarah (Teague?) Morgan, with some deciding she must have been Joshua's, but most leaving parentless.
Yet we have a significant DNA match from a descendant. So perhaps she was a Teague, just not Joshua's.
Or the match comes from Mahlon Morgan's mother who was a Loftin as was Joshua's mother.
Or ...
So the full document would help to examine.
I just did some 1 to 1 comparisons of my aunt's GEDMatch kit to the kit nummbers we know.
http://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000040077700119&
My aunt matches the Grays.
Hi, all.
My GEDMatch kit number is F393111.
Here are my lines of descent from Edward:
MALE LINE:
Edward Teague >> William Teague>> Moses Teague>> Jacob Teague>> James Teague>> William Teague>> Joseph Teague>> Charles Madison Teague>> Artis Rowan Teague>> Norman Otis Teague>> Charles Lowell Teague>> David Teague
FEMALE LINE 1:
Edward Teague >> William Teague>> Moses Teague>> Abraham Teague>> Hannah Teague>> Sarah Hedgecock>> Martha Emily Idol>> Charles Madison Teague>> Artis Rowan Teague>> Norman Otis Teague>> Charles Lowell Teague>> David Teague
FEMALE LINE 2:
Edward Teague >> William Teague>> Abraham Teague>> John Teague>> Huldah Teague>> Elisha Charles>> Huldah Lavina Charles>> Flora Idol>> Vera Lavina Stafford>> Blake Stafford>> Charles Lowell Teague>> David Teague
I look forward to the chance to share with the rest of you.
Great to meet you, David, and thank you so much for participating.
I've compared your kit on GEDMatch to my aunt's with a lowered threshold of 300 cM / 300 SNP minimum, and they match on "multiple" chromosomes including chromosome 1.
Roland - I think it's time to set up the spreadsheet you mentioned and I'm not sure how to format it. Is there an example from anyplace i can use as a model? I'd like to stay within a convention or standard if possible.
@Edward Teague.
Hello to each of you. I want to express my deep gratitude to Erica...also to Roland for continuing to pursue this project and to encourage more people to join.
Good news! I uploaded my uncle's (late father's brother) DNA test from Ancestry and performed one-to-one matches with each person listed in Roland's entry, dated 2/6/16. Thanks to David Teague posting his information on 2/22/16, there was even more reason to be pleased. David's one-to-one match with my uncle was more significant (matching on 4 chromosomes instead of 3), than with anyone else; except me, of course. :-))
I'm waiting on Virginia Oldham to obtain the results of her brother's DNA test, which added to the solid sources showing their ancestor was Garrett Gray, Sr., who is also - if my research is correct - my ancestor also. A friend of Virginia posted her GEDmatch kit # and both my uncle and I matched her as well (she is also a descendant of Garrett Gray, Sr.
So, yes, it appears my family descended from William / Wilhelm Gray and Sarah Teague. Now all I'm waiting on are the results from my Y DNA test (ftDNA), tracing only my male (Gray) ancestors to verify what already appears to be evident.
Erica, I will provide you with more detailed info as soon as the "batching process" is completed for my uncle, and we can then perform one-to-many matches using his kit #. It is A709584.
