Have added the 19th and 20th Century Bussell family lineage to my family tree for anyone interested.

My great grandfather, on my mother's side of the family, changed his name from Bussell to Fox on his marriage certificate in June 1876. Shortly after his marriage, before his first child, Beatrice, was born in Narrabri 1877, he had changed the spelling to Foxe (by adding an "e" on the end).

My great grandfather's real name was William John Bussell. He was born in Devon, England in 1846. He lived for over two decades in Narrabri (in Australia) and was buried in the old cemetery in Narrabri in 1898.

The Bussell lineage can be traced back to an ancestor, Robert Bussell, in thirteenth-century England during the reign of King Henry III (1216 to 1272). In 1262, Theobald de Englishville formally deeded the Manors of Teignwick, Bradley and North Newton in the parish of Highweek in Devon to his nephew and heir, Robert Bussel. Robert was Englishville's sister's son whom he had adopted. The motto on the Bussell family Coat Of Arms reads: Dum spiro spero which means "While I breathe, I hope".

William John Bussell had good reason to change his name since he had arrived in Australia on a British naval ship in 1876. While in port in Sydney, he had met his future wife, Emmeline Sophia Eather, had fallen in love, and decided to jump ship and start a new life incognito in Australia. They were married in Narrabri on 1st June 1876 and had 14 children, of which three died as babies. One of their children, William Henry Foxe (1882 - 1972), was destined to become a notable store owner in Narrabri in the first half of the 20th century.

I called him Uncle Bill Foxe. He married Annie Clara Carrington in 1918. The Foxe and Carrington families became intertwined through marriage (two Foxes married two Carringtons). The two families owned and managed a number general stores in the heart of Narrabri, including W. Foxe & Co.

My middle name is Carrington which is my mother's maiden name. I've traced my Carrington blood line back to my eighth great grandfather who was born in England in 1660. This lineage can also be found on my evolving family tree (again for anyone interested)......
