It is suggested that Peter Becker is the son of Johannes Dietrich Becker and Sibilla van der Upwich. I know of no records that show or prove this. It seems that some records in South Africa (maybe the deathcertificate?) indicate his father having the name Johannis. Is anyone aware of this and which ones?
If no proof can be found that Johannis Dietrich Becker and Sibilla van der Upwich are his parents, I suggest that they should be removed. Sibilla is from royal descent and for people to get to excited too quickly about this, would be a shame.

come and take a look.
Personally I wish this psychopath wasn't my direct great grandfather, but that doesn't in itself mean he wasn't of royal descent.
You may want to read this booklet http://cdbooks-r-us.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=136: "In this book (27 pages) JL Buys discusses the origin, marriage and status of the progenitor Pieter Becker, before providing an analysis of his crimes and court cases." The booklet may also be available elsewhere.
He is amongst others suspected of having murdered his wife's first husband (never proven), had several other misdemeanors, including the most horrific martyring of one of his slaves - he was banished to Robben Island and would have spent much more time there than any other that we are aware of (incl the late Pres Mandela), had it not been that it is suspected that he disappeared from there from time to time... It is assumed that he eventually died on Robben Island.
I can't vouch for his mental state, etc. but most certainly not someone to be immensely proud of!?
=After her body was washed with a mixture of urine and salt, she was forced to make a fire in the fireplace. Bekker wrapped a "waketting" to which a piece of wood block was attached, around her neck. The rest of the chain was wrapped tightly around her body and the end of the chain was hung in the fireplace. The heat later became so intense that "als de baas en de Hottentot (waarskynlik die Khoi, Jochem) haar't lighaam waschte een stuk vleijs van haar bil [boud] afviel". Maria picked up the piece of meat, and Johanna asked her, "What would you have me do? Come, eat it now." Maria was then forced to chew it for a long time and then when it was considered by Johanna to have lasted long enough, she ordered Maria to spit it into the fire. Then the Hottentot on the orders of Bekker on took some pliers and tore off loose pieces of meat that hung from her body. The rest of Maria's statement would rather not be quoted here.=
Thomas Hambrock says" I have done quite a bit of researching, trying to find proof for claim that these are indeed his parents. Moreso as his apparent mother is of royal descend. I could find however find no proof. A visit to the archives in Deventer (church records) is a last resort. (A source gives his place of origin as Deventer, Netherlands) is however still on my list. An often quoted source for his parents is the book by Henry Shaw: The South African Bekker Family: From Pioneers and Plunderers to Patriots. I have contacted this author. There appears to be no definate proof that these were his parents. Because of this, I suggest that parents should be removed altogether. Does anyone have any arguments as to why this should not be done?
With regards from the Netherlands,Thomas Hambrock"
As no proof has surfaced, I'm happy to have them removed Thomas. Private, you Curate. Can you take a look?
Daniel, I hope you are not right. If his genes are passed on recessively, alot of Afrikaners would carry the active disease!. The degree of long distance incest among Afrikaners is very high. Alot of Afrikaners are descended from him a couple of times both from fathers and mothers side, which might carry the burnden of having two recessive genes :-). I presume it must have been a combination of a mother drinking during pregnancy, birth trauma and a traumatic youth or just the good old devil posession :-)
Sharon to answer your question. He says that he thinks he might have gotten the info from the myheritage site but he is not certain anymore.
