Well done on your project. These are my thoughts and are up for debate..

Keep this project for people who were actually recorded with the surname "van de Kaap" and its derivatives..
There are other projects already for slaves in general.

I think "van de Kaap" was used mainly for slaves BORN in the Cape, but maybe it was used for indigenous people as well?

Good project. Make sure you add it to the Welkom Cuzzins list of SA projects.

Agree with the points Don is making.

Thanks,
It started off with van die Kaap to sort of figure out where they come from before that and then I thought that mtDNA could give directions there and thought to rather join the mtDNA project, but then I saw some van die Kaap males and then tough I'll first see where that might lead to.

Then I saw some of van de Kaap people's parents were from other places, so then I've included them to finally get the van de Kaap grouped under from Southern Africa (almost local or origenal) and then from Africa, but not Southern Africa and then Not Africa.

The Idea first started long ago when I had a autsomal DNA match with a person with mtDNA haplogroup of L0d2. The person was from USA and had a bit of a branch on the maternal side from RSA. So I would like to match up the Autosomal DNA matches to the mt DNA lines and Y and together with this place it on the tree.

and so on and some more.

I see the Indian People will outgrow this project.
With so many profiles on this project I thought it best to start at the first person to join the project and work my way back to most recent added person not to lose my place or miss a person.
For the time been I'll skip the other places and work through the "Africa" people first. I'll keep the from else where people in or on the project as some might have children with the van die Kaap surnames.
If and when I'm done with all, then I would not mind if all is copied to and or incorporated into the Slaves, DNA and or Progenitors projects.
Personally I think some of the project could be merged or combined as a lot of information is duplicate.
But then it might become to big manage.
mmm. Or keep it as a surname project. ??

I'm not a fan of duplicating projects, but I don't think that you are doing that here.
in not understanding the Indian people comment and the first people to join the project bit, but maybe that's because I'm still only on my first cup of coffee of the day :-)

If I understand correctly, at the moment this project has two aims: to collect together all the van de Kaap names, and to track the Origins of SA slaves -not just the ones born in the Cape - hopefully using DNA. The second aim interests me enormously.

I'm thinking that you're thinking that these two aims involve slightly different groups of people, albeit with a big crossover.
If so, I agree with you.

Hi,
On the project page, on the right you have the profiles linked to the project.
If you view all, it gives you 3 pages of names. The first page is the most recent added names and on page 3 is the names(or profiles) added the when the project was started, so that is the first names of the profiles join timeline.
So to bookmark my progress on adding names I've started on the bottom of page 3 and work my way up to the top and then p2 and then p1.

Now if you look at the surnames on the project that I've added at this stage, there is only a hand full of van die Kaap compared to van Bengal or other surnames that indicate that they are from India.
So I am going to skip them and only work through the profiles of van die Kaap and then return the the others.
(as Donovan stated)

I still need to clean up my Intro to.

Okay, I see - so it's going to be a van der Kaap surname project: adding DNA whee we have it.
Good show!
