Jacob John Etter served as a fireman on the USS Kansas in the American Civil War. Source: Registry of the Uniontown Soldiers Orphan School at Jumonville, PA. Three daughters Carrie, Julia, And Edith were sent there in 1900 and remained until the school closed in 1908. Those under 15 (Julia) at the time of the closing were re-assigned to the state Orphan's School in Scotland, PA. Not sure of the other two.
