Based on what I have found in the short time I have researched this, Ely's mother Elizabeth was direct line Wolf Clan and closely related to Guyasutha, Cornplanter, Handsome Lake and Red Jacket, all of whom have Geni profiles. They all were, as she was, heavily involved in the politics and diplomatic relations of the Seneca Nation. His father William Parker, a veteran of the War of 1812 was Seneca Turtle Clan, his grandfather, Old King (Smoke Johnson, also on Geni), was one of the most important and influential Seneca chiefs of the 18th century.

Believe that, armed with this information, we shouldn't have a problem building a profile for the General. Thoughts?
What Language should be used for his (Brig. Gen. Ely Samuel Parker) native name? Geni currently doesn't have a 'Seneca' language, and I have no idea if that would be the language name or what the alphabet would be for it!
The Seneca language is almost extinct. Doubt there are many speakers of it remaining. Same holds true for many of the early native tongues. A very good question! Perhaps some derivation of another Iroquoisian tongue, Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Tuscarora or later Lenape or Shawnee but these last two are Algonquian. Not up on this enough to really say for sure. Guess Ely Parker will have to do for now until we find or develop something.

I wonder if it's possible to find names in Seneca, anyway.
is Ahweyneyohn Nedo-sio-weh-ah Ganadesaga, Seneca mother or father? I don't understand the text.
We need someone with a bacjground in the Iroquois people
This project is building quite nicely thanks to you all. I just wanted to share this drawing by J J Cornplanter http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/scandocs/largeimg/longhouse3767476.htm
Also this talks of the league of the Iroquois nation and the Seneca Clans are mentioned. Maybe we can glean something from this.
