Private User is the section on inserting images still valid?

I have been trying to insert this image into a project

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnar_Lodbrok#/media/File:Ragnar_Lod...

which is also on Geni already

http://www.geni.com/photo/view/5604233735830047570?album_type=photo...

i've used the {{}} while removing the http(s) and no joy. I checked https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Cheatsheet which says to use [[File:Wiki.png|thumb|Caption]] but that definitely didnt work.

Take a closer look on that wikipedia URL. It contain characters that is not valid in an URL and have to be escaped with %nn where nn is the hex code.

Yes, copying and pasting the URL into the address field of your browser works, but that is because a browser makes the converting for you. The wikitext URL parser is not a browser, - it just sends whatever you have typed.

The actual URL for the photo on Geni is by the way this, - your URL pointed to the album, not the photo itself.

BTW. The wikipedia helpsheet is for wikipedia, not for Geni.

I was only trying the wiki help sheet because what i found on the project page was not working and Erica had put the wiki link in another discussion.

So if the URL i posted is for the album how am i supposed to find the URL for the photo?

I think i know what you are saying about inappropriate characters in the URL and replacing them with %nn but have no idea which characters they might be. I learnt C++ in the _early_ 90s and haven't used it since so please be gentle.

Eureka!
Need to click on Full Size button on the album page to get to the actual photo. Knew it would be something simple.

Or simply right-click to get the image URL. Notice the use of _large etc as described in the project.
