I have been trying to find information about my great-grandfather, Barend Johannes van den Berg. So far, I have found the record of his wedding in 1892, to Catharina Susanna Kruger, in Bethulie.
The trail ends there, I am really very interested to find out where he came from. The POW record gives his address as De Put, Bethlehem. Catharina's family farmed in Bethulie so I do not know if Barend's family came from there.
I received several photographs a few weeks ago from my great aunt, Barend's granddaughter. The most important is of Barend, Catharina and their baby, my grandfather. It was taken in 1896 and it was the first time I had seen Barend and Catharina. Also other pictures of four men, Kruger and perhaps Venter, taken at their return from Ceylon.
There are a couple more pictures, one of an elderly couple , it might be Catharina's parents.
