Cecil Heal - Added based on athy Smith's memoirs

Cecil Howard Heal was born 18 Dec. 1906 at Aldershot, Hampshire (where his father* was in the army). According to the National Probate Calendar, he died on 21 Oct. 1966 at Merton, Greater London (he was living in Putney at the time).

Cecil, his sister Doris Beryl and their mother Alice Mary are all listed together in the 1939 Register, living at 47 Ruskin Rd, Carshalton, Surrey.

According to the National Probate Calendar, Alice Mary Heal died on 25 Sept. 1947 in Hammersmith, London; Doris Beryl Heal died on 8 Sept 1960 in Surrey (listing her as living at the same address as in the 1939 Register; admin. to her brother "Cecil Howard Heal, company secretary").

*Alice Mary's husband / Cecil's father was Charles Henry Heal - her first cousin, son of [Charles] Eli Heal and Caroline (nee Hill). Charles Henry Heal was born in Newington, Surrey (3rd Q, 1877) and died on 9 May 1915 (killed at Gallipoli, Turkey during WW1). In the 1911 census, Charles Henry Heal is recorded (age 33) living in military barracks in Pretoria, South Africa (he was the colour sergeant for the 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers). His wife (33) and son Cecil Howard (4) are also recorded as living in the barracks (she is recorded as "Mary Alice Heal").

Another child was born and died during the family's time in South Africa - Winifred May Heal, born 1911; died 4 Jan. 1912 (aged 5 weeks). (Sources: FamilySearch; eGGSA Library - Gravestones in South Africa).

After South Africa, the battalion was stationed in Tientsin, China where Doris Beryl Heal was born (the 1939 Register lists her date of birth as 4 Apr 1914), as well as another child - Reginald C Heal, born & died 1913.
