I think a ghost town umbrella is probably a good idea. I was surprised to find this one in England. I suspect most of the Ghost towns will be in the Americas. I know of many in Canada. The town where my parents lived their early married life is a ghost town.
I've gone for it Kenneth - gave me a chance to make use of one of my holiday snaps because we visited an old silver mining ghost town whilst in BC. Please let me know if you like the layout and the way I've set it to work. Not sure it's ideal.
I lived in Oatman Az from 1958-1962. It was name after Olive Oatman a white woman taken captive which thru Geni I found out I am related too! Small world!
In 1863, mountain man and prospector Johnny Moss discovered gold in the Black Mountains and staked several claims, one named the Moss, after himself, and another after Olive Oatman.
This is only partially on topic, but what is the Geni convention for how to record a place of birth that is a ghost town? I have one that is verified as a ghost town and recorded as same in more than one USA Census. For now I will enter the modern USA county and state until a response is received.
You can also use the "place" field for details / explanations. For instance,
Ghost town, near
(modern city)
(state)

@Erica Isabel Howton thanks for the instructions. As we speak I'm vetting a Family Group on Ancestry, within my MAX Extended, containing such a ghost town birth. After vetting, I'll SmartCopy into Geni where said profile will be ready for the Project.
