Geni,
I received a notice from Geni that some of my profiles had been updated by Crist David Middaugh and Charles Richard Rice. In updating they erroneously changed the county from Monroe to Ulster. This has happened different times before and I have to take the time to go back and change it.. I don't know why so many people think the city of Rochester, NY is in Ulster Co. when it is Monroe Co. I was born there and that is where my family came from so I know it is MONROE County. It is frustrating to have my profiles "updated" with incorrect information.

P.S. There is a town called Rochester which is in Ulster County but NOT the city of Rochester which is in Monroe County. Please make note of this.

Mary Jo Morgan Cragen - we can lock the data fields if the profiles are made into Master Profiles.

Message me on Geni to discuss. Thanks.

Thank you Mike for adding the wikipedia link which differentiates between the two Rochesters. It is definitely confusing when there are two places with the same name in a state.

Hatte Anne how does a profile become a "Master Profile"?
I have been doing some more research on the James Joseph Requa's this evening and it does appear that they were born in Ulster County but in 1847 moved to Rochester (Monroe Co.). They are all buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester, Monroe County, NY

Mary Jo Morgan Cragen - once you have a profile sourced with information for location and date for birth and death and something in the About, preferable with attached sources, go to the sticky post thread in public discussions that is to request that a profile be made a Master Profile (MP). Add that you would like the fields locks and explain why.

It sounds like this instance is a bit more complex based on your research and that may explain why others change the profile. Document this in the Overview / About. That may help.
