The Lexington Alarm was raised and farm boys from eastern Ct raised arms in thier local militias and began to march towards Boston. John, Ishmael and their cousin Eleazer, John served 8 days.

May 11, 1775
Enlisted in Gen Putnam's, 3rd Reg't,Capt Elliot's, 8th Co.Ishmael, joined up 14 days later.

June 16, 1775
Battle of Bunker Hill begins, the 1st,7th,and 8th companies of Putnam's, 3rd regiment saw action. Putnam's, quote " don't fire till you see the whites of their eyes " happened during this battle.

June 17, 1775
After Bunker Hill the 8th Company remained at Cambridge in Putnam's, center division during the siege of Boston. John and Ishmael Moffett, where both discharged on Dec. 14, 1775.

On Manhattan Island during the British landing at Kips Bay.Douglass's, regt had taken cannon fire for an hour before the troop landings started. During the attack Douglass's, troops retreated wildly.

Kips Bay, Gen Washington, encountered some of the troops retreating, angrily he began flogging some with his riding cane declaring " Are these the men with whom I am to defend America with.

Late afternoon Latimore's, militia would be positioned across from the British 24th Reg't, Rangers and Grendiers composed of Germans and British. Capt Daniel Clark, was mortally wound during the battle
