I've spent the last few days researching this gentleman, as I'd held out hope he was related to our Corrie family. There is, to my knowledge, no link between our lines but I've nonetheless had a very fascinating look into his life. It seems he passed at the ripe old age of 70. He was mentioned in a dispatch from General Thesiger to the Cape Governer, which I found in the Frontier War Journal of Major John Crealock. I have also found a photo which may be of him, which can be viewed at SA Military History (http://samilitaryhistory.org/vo026fmc.jpg).
I've sourced two documents from the Cape Archive, both written by Captain J. Cowie (transcribed as J. Courie though).
