I don't think that anyone who's read any biography about her can have missed the fact that her mother was German.

I have, however, not been able to find any documentation of the names of her mother's parents. They seem strangely absent from the record.

(No Name) I got the point of the article, yes. I was (perhaps too subtly) making the point that we don't have documentation of these claims, except by word-of-mouth report of a word-of-mouth transmission.

I have every reason to believe that the report is true, and that Ingrid's mother was of Jewish descent - but the first step in verifying this is to get the names of Frieda's parents. And we haven't got them.

I've added the DN link and the information to Friedel's profile.

(No Name) JewAge seems to be no better than Geni about sourcing information; I can't figure out what references the author was using.

Note: Frieda's profile is not locked; the only reason I updated it myself was that nobody else had done it, and it seemed worth doing.

(No Name) please don't make this thread into a "great people of Jewish descent throughout the ages" thread.
If people want to discuss who Ingrid Bergmann's mother's parents were, I would like to keep this thread for that purpose.

(No Name) the title of this thread is "Swedish-born actress Ingrid Bergman's Jewish background.".
If you start a thread named "Famous Jewish people", I won't bother to look at it, and you will be free from my comments on it.
The rest of your messsage seems irrelevant to anything on here.

HAHAHA. I am related to her though the various ex-marriages of Uma Thurman to Gary Oldman to Isabella Rossellini. Geni can be quite humorous at times. This was one of those times.

And the term y'all are looking for is "meta-discussion."

As in, "I don't do meta-discussion."

Which i myself (mostly) do not.

@martin if you're thinking of A. Saarinen, his behavior just previous to leaving was clearly incompatible with continuing to use Geni. But being suspended will neither remove his posts en masse nor cause his profile to be unavailable, so my guess is that he closed his account.

I was also wondering if he quit/closed his account, or if Geni kicked him out.

Perhaps (as i believe Harald suggests) Geni placed restrictions on him, and not liking those he quit -- that would make total sense.
Would just like to be sure this was not an example of Geni exercising the type censorship he feared and referred to at times.

Any way to find out?

No, but I support Harald's theory, because he deleted all messages posted lately as well before the account was closed. CS would only delete reported messages.

I thought I saw many of his messages still up, with his name crossed out, when I looked at one point yesterday.
Sure hope you are right, that CS would only delete reported messages, and I am mistaken about seeing that.
