Hi there my name is leemaria rochester, very interested to find this site, being trying to find out exactly where this place is? I have strong st bess connections and strong ties to this place. It pops up again and again. My ancestor thomas elliot was a business partner to Henry cerf. and infact one of his descendants ended up owning twickenham. Her name was Judith Sherman ( sheimir). Im trying to find out some info on judiths father Nicholas sherman ( or sheimir or shumur- he was often listed with different spellings) . we believe nicholas to be jewish and we know he had links to berlin plantation and twickenham but we just cant work out how.

Where exactly is berlin plantation in st bess, near the santa cruz area?

Hi Lee- Maria, just seeing your post three years on! I'm guessing that you may already know where Berlin is.
Strangely enough Inwas there in 2015 and went to find Berlin. It is close to a place called Junction. A friend who lives near Junction took us there and we walked the land and saw the old stone remains of what possibly may have been the kitchen. My gggg grandmother on my father's mother's side was a slave there called Bessy. She was impregnated by an Englishman, a vintner, three times and had all three children from a very young age. My father's side was Jewish with roots in St Mary Axe, London UK going back to 1740. I have found references to both Hyman and Judah Cohen in St Mary Axe or Bury St which is the next street in my research. I believe that my Jewish gggg grandfather, Aaron de Lisser, knew them. It was a very small community back then. I also read somewhere that Henry Cerf was related to the Cohen brothers, a cousin and sold the property to them. Anyhow am very interested in all this. It would be very nice to keep in touch. I did a DNA test and am finding lots of relations in St Bess!!!

Joseph Ennever was born in Walcot, Bath in Sept 1795 and died in in Drury Lane, London in April 1845. His parents are both buried in Weston Church, Bath which I have visited, I am descended from another Ennever family in Bath around this time but haven't managed to find any connection to Joseph's family who seem quite financially comfortable. In 1841 Census he is living in London and listed as a traveller and from his Will owned a pub/tavern in Snowhill not far from his residence. Joseph left the bulk of his estate to his niece Emily Phipps after it was proved in 1860 in Bath. No mention of his family in Jamaica but this is fascinating information about Joseph which I never knew until now! I am now trying to find out more about Joseph's associates and how he came about his travels to St Elizabeth-I presume because of his profession as a wine and brandy merchant allowed him to travel in search of produce to purchase for himself or his employer. Regards Simon Ennever

Hi everyone ..my name is Curtis Berlin from slough,England. I've spent a bit of time in bigwoods, st Elizabeth where my grandparents live on afew occasions throughout my childhood and I'm pretty sure it's near or if not on the grounds of where the Berlin plantation once stood ...I'm guessing our side of the family drew our name straight from the plantation itsself but as I'm sure you all know, its not too easy gathering information on your slave ancestors... Any information would be appreciated. thank you
