Elmer worked for the railroad as a conductor. The line he worked came from Parsons down into Oklahoma during the oil boom. He advised his brother, Oscar Sr, to leave the merchant marines where he worked as a mechanic and move to Oklahoma to make his fortune. Elmer played cards once a week at the fire station. He was playing cards when he died. Someone said Elmer it is your turn and when they looked he was gone. Elmer's first wife died of cancer at a young age and without having had children. He never remarried but did live with a woman by the the name of Mae.
