Born as Ferencz VINIS.
Known as Frank VINISH in Canada.
Family lore reflects that Frank's surname was changed sometime after he arrived in Canada however no one was clear about the details. I obtained Frank's Saskatchewan Homestead documents which cover the time from application in 1902 within a few weeks of his arrival in Canada for several years following the annual qualifying process to officially owning the land. The application and first few years progress documents were all filed under the surname of VINIS with Frank's signature reflecting the same. Towards the end of the qualifying process an office clerk pre-filled the forms out as VINISH. Frank's signature shows he added the "h" on to the end and the forms and signatures that followed were all spelled as VINISH as we know it today. Someone has gone back over each of the early homestead documents from the first application and added the "h" in a different ink and handwritting.
