Mathew Hamilton of Torrance, elder son of Robert of Torrance, was the ancestor of the Hamiltons of Westburn. He married a daughter of Muirhead of Lauchope, and had issue:
1. James, his heir.
2. Alexander.
3. Andrew, of Westburn.
Andrew Hamilton of Westburn, a cadet of the Hamiltons of Torrance, is believed to have been a son of Mathew Hamilton of Torrance.
His name first appears in 1604, in a deed under Privy Seal, and again in the Commissary Records of Glasgow, of the date 13th November 1618. He had issue:
1. Gabriel, his heir.
2. David, who came to America in 1651.
