Pursuing Genealogy involves discipline and certain skill set.

What skills do you believe is required to conduct effective research?
What is the MOST important skill?
What skills have been developed or enhanced by the personal pursuit of Genealogy?

Example of skills --- Communication (written/verbal); Organizational; Analytical

Great questions!

I think my analytic skills have sharpened by doing genealogy. I've been blessed with a good innate sense of "pattern recognition" (this piece fits, this does not) but I could not have said "why do I think that" without having looked at many, many pieces. So now I can say "this person may not have married that person because ...". Conversely, "someone from this family married someone from that family because ...". Gives me a place to look for the proof!
