Any Geni Curator can grant you access (by the Curator going to your profile, invoking SmartCopy, and following the prompts).
Any Geni Curator can deny you access if they find you are using SmartCopy irresponsibly.

What is it? A few discussions I'm seeing here now are all I know of it, and haven't yet found any explanation of just what it is.

If it's a way to get data from other sites like Ancestry into Geni, I would be thrilled to be able to do so, if it's stable.

Please add me - do we have to be using Chrome browser or will it interface with ie too. I do have chrome installed or an older version

Yes, it is *only* a Chrome "extension" ... FYI: unless you disable it, Chrome will typically 'auto-update' itself -- you can 'force' the update by going to the "About Google Chrome" option.

Chrome on installing right ton here what comes up after it is installed or while being installed is up as Vosteran search & Vosteran.com

I've been reading the discussion forum about SmartCopy. So I'm aware of some of the bugs I have to watch out for. I see there is a pretty good list of "best practices." I always search for profiles both via GENI and via Google to GENI to look for possible possible duplicates and I'm used to having multiple pages open to GENI at the same time side-by-side so the workflow won't be that much different. I want to test out the copy function. I have some areas of my tree that have absolutely no users beside me within a few generations. So I'll experiment there for a while so I can only blow up my own profiles worst case while I learn how to do this properly. I've done a lot of single surname projects on Ancestry.com and MyHeritage that I'd like to share here.

Could you grant me an access to use SmartCopy?

Hi Dan, can you grant me rights to add people via smartcopy?

If you have access, you can grant others access. Go to their profile, click on the SmartCopy icon in your Chrome bar, and you'll see a message: grant tree building rights.

It's a good idea to still have someone request in this discussion though, helps us all keep track!

... (ahem)... I think only curators (currently) can grant access to others.

A little more explanation: "Non-Pro Geni users have the ability to update the focus profile but can not add family members."

It is not specifically a SmartCopy restriction; it is a limitation of what Geni allows Basic members to do via the API (the programming interface to the Geni data).

Since a Basic user can't add or update the 'surrounding' family via the API, there is not a lot of advantage to using SmartCopy without a Pro Geni membership.

Note also: this has nothing to do with a MyHeritage (MH) Data Subscription, which is what gives one full access to MH SmartRecord and SmartMatch(tm) details.
