I found a variation of Jose's father name. Pablo Font Sampera or Sanpera in the records for the birth of child Luisa Font Crespo.

These are very common "mistakes" to the point that descendants choose one over the other and they all think they own the "correct" spelling. The "Gil de Taboadas" almost disappeared and are now simply "Gil" or "Taboada". You wouldn't believe the different ways I've seen my last name written (chuckle). The "y" between the paternal and maternal last names is merely a convention and there's nothing right or wrong about it. Toh-may-toh, toh-mah-toh, poh-tay-toh, po-tah-to, not a gator, just a gato... ha ha But keep documenting it because it may explain a lot of things later!

Yes,i agree. I have never had any documentation to validate the name until I came across 3 certificates. When I recently found Margarita Matilde FONT MARTELO and then the birth certificates for her later kids I found the 2nd surnames of these people. The earliest I think is 1870 baptism in Malaga Spain where the 2nd surname is shown and that validates it for me. In the other two its Sampere. A LDS search finds that name in Barcleona births so that might be the actual spelling at that time. Thsoe records are only indexed so cant review them.
