I would think that if the only surviving child of Otto made it to the U.S. (her Geni profile says she died in the USA), that she would have had some contact with other family members. I never heard of her until I noticed her entry just now. Does anybody have anything?

No idea. I know her name from a handwritten tree that lists her birth and the notice that she died in the US. Sorry

Yesterday I looked at for the first time documents relating to the distribution of Bruno Kohn's estate. She is a recipient. Her name appears as "Mrs. Mariella Chance." Additionally, her brother, Ernst Kohn is a recipient as well. So he did not die in childhood, as the Geni entry now states (albeit qualified). The distribution document is from 1961. I will correct the entries in Geni.

I have found a letter from her to my grandparents, Fritz and Julie Lowenthal, postmarked 1972, which I have uploaded. She lived in Birmingham, England, and had a husband named Michael.

Can any German-speakers tell us if there is any more information in the letter? Thanks for the help.

Marie Eleonore Mariella Kohn Chance is a complete mystery to me, in Germany, in England, and in America. Like you, Daniel, i never heard her name mentioned. I have never seen a photo of her.

And this site claims she died in 2000 in Birmingham, England -- also that she was the second wife of Michael Chance and his first wife was a Lowenstein!

Father: Chance, Clinton Frederick
Mother: Whyte, Janet

Family:

Spouse:

Lowenstein, Erica

Family:

There is a LOT more at that site.

Wow - more cousins!

I am thinking that i will take that site as somewhat authroiitative and build it into our tree here at Geni.

Sounds like a good idea to me

I added a small build-out today for Mariella and her husband and their children and noted their simultaneous death dates of January, 2000 and this sparked a memory i had in my "unfiled memories" of my mother's family conversations with me by phone: She had mentioned some Kohn cousin and a spouse in England who were quite aged dying in a head-on car collision caused by a drunk driver. She laughed about how they were so old they chould not have been out driving. (She was sill driving herself, at the time.) This has been bugging me, as the only Kohns i knew of in England were the long-deceased Bruno and his wife ... but i think she may have been referring to Mariella Kohn Chance and her husband, in their 80s, and that the death was recent when she called me, not something of the past.

I will continue to build out the Chance family tree and will report as i do so. When and if i hit any duplications, i will perform a merge. So far, bo duplicates. These British Chances, by the way may have been Jewish or part-Jewish, as they have Levvy and Lowenstein and other suggestive surnames in their tree.

Oh ... "bo duplicates" = "no duplicates." I apologize for my continual low vision typographical errors. I work on Geni in the mornings from my laptop, which displays a far smaller font size than my desktop computers, to fit a full page on the screen.

I have added all of the Chance family in that snipped quoted above. More will come later. There were no duplications at Geni, as far as i could see.
