Problem with this page?

Gene posted a photo I recently looked at on my Facebook page.
It appeared as if I posted the photo. I feel this is an intrusive policy.
On what basis is this allowed? Is there somewhere I can sign
off to prevent this in the future?

Not possible unless you have approved it your self.

Check the [Social Sharing: On/OFF] tab in the upper right corner under your name.

Click to turn off and on

In https://www.geni.com/account_settings/applications which you find in your account settings by clicking your own name you can see and manage your authorizations.

All my notifications are private. I do not have a Facebook link to my Geni account, so I did not approve any posting. Yet the photo of someone I looked at appeared on my Facebook page.

I don't see the social sharing tab you mention.

The tab only appears on Geni if you are also logged in to Facebook (or possibly other media??) at the same time you are logged in to Geni (and probably, but not sure - if both are on the same browser).

In any case, no website or app can post as you on FB without your approval, so you must have accidentally approved it.

Check and manage which apps you have approved access to your FB account here:

I checked the Facebook settings and there was one possibility about allowing others to post on it the I disabled. There is nothing else that I see.
What is the relationship that Geni has with Facebook that allows it to post at will?

Any chance you can provide a screen shot of the Facebook posting? There may be clues there that can tell us how the posting happened.

I can't do a screen shot, but the posting was clearly made by Geni.com. It shows the picture of Karl Brod and says he's related "to a private user."
When you click on it, his relationship to me is shown.

I have my "social networking" turned off, so it says I don't share my information.

So, again, what right does Geni have to post this picture on my Facebook page?

You have to ask Facebook about that because I am quite sure it is not technically possible without an approval from you.

I know folks sometimes post on Facebook photos they took in which I am included - and I know they did not ask my permission or approval.

Is there some place on Facebook where I can deny folks the ability to do that? My guess is there is not, but that there may be someplace where I can deny them the ability to Tag the photo with my name -- and if so, I would appreciate knowing where that is. Or is it not possible?

Bjorn - I checked out your link above - got a screen which tells me "On Facebook, your name, profile picture, cover photo, gender, networks, username, and user id are always publicly available to both people and apps. Learn why. Apps also have access to your friends list and any information you choose to make public." - BUT did not see anything I understood telling me how to manage what others post.

(actually, most of what I saw there did not speak to me at all - but pretty sure none of it controlled what others could post)

To those who can still have problems with Facebook. You can simply install Privacy Badger plugin for your favourite browser and block connect.facebook.net and they'll be unable to track you on other sites (until they figure out the different way to do that).
