Have accepted them only because a named pair looks better than a nameless pair. No sources have been provided, and no reliable information seems to exist.

Col. Nathaniel Pope did marry a "Lucy", but her birth name has not been discovered.

A later Nathaniel Pope *did* marry a Lucy Fox, but that was in the 1700s.

I suspect someone has been working with one of those late 19th-early 20th century cod genealogies which cobbled up information (and often invented much of it) for American families eager to find illustrious ancestors.

I'm too tired from a long day at work today, Maven. I will try to look at it tomorrow. Do you have a link to anywhere that indicates that her birth name hasn't been found? If you know of one, could you add the link here? Or any other links of importance that you have found.

Lucy has been dis-associated from (probably) bogus parents, but it will take a curator to change her birth name and get rid of her nonexistent middle name.

The whole family is a desperate tangle because so many people want them as ancestors.
