I'd like to start a discussion about my/our paternal grandmother: Mary Judith Jackson (Mrs Thomas R Elliott).
It would be wonderful to hear about your memories of Nena Mary. So I thought, a great place to start this discussion, might be the aliases she went by. As a child of the 60s, I grew up hearing her called by various names, some of which I've listed above. I find names interesting, how names are bestowed, how they are acquired and the reasoning behind them can be straightforward or colourful and can give rise to lively speculation, and so forth. For eg. we all know that the name Mary, is the english version for Meresimani. Growing up in Kadavu Is., she was formally known by her parents, and previous to marrying grandpa Tom, as Bulou Meresimani, what may have caused her to change her name when she came to live in Suva?
