In the Dutch area of Geni this subject is already started
* http://www.geni.com/projects/Nederlandse-Verzetsstrijders/12572
So I think I would be better to cooperate on this subject and not duplicate.

groeten, Jeannette.

Jeannette,

I agree with you, so lets update the description to include what Private User has added to her project and then we can delete it.

I have already changed the name of the Dutch project to include the English name.

I searched for Dutch resistance and nothing came up. The other project is in Dutch. Perhaps we should have a mirror project in English?

Private User

Certainly don't want to duplicate efforts, but there should be an English and a Dutch version.

Also, I discussed this project with two of my Dutch collaborators and neither one knew the other project existed :/

I have decided that we do need both projects and have added a link in each project that will take you to the other one.

Private User I would be very happy and appreciative if you could help create this English version of the existing Dutch project.

4/8/2015 at 4:48 PM

In the meantime, we need help for the umbrella or master project for all "European Resistance Movements".

What kind of help Kenneth Kwame Welsh, (C)?

4/8/2015 at 5:05 PM

A quick overview of the thread so far is that the one project is a "repetition" of the other. The actual resistance fighters names are duplicated. It is easy to translate the narrative into both languages (as has been done with other projects) and still retain only the one list. That would be my preference.

Much of my work is done in the Dutch tree so I would naturally update that project first. Would I update both with identical information.... Its double the work to do that. I am also involved with the Dutch Jewish Genealogy Facebook group, many /most of whom are Geni users.

Kevin, the project title can be multi lingual and we can all work collaboratively on the one list which to me makes more sense.

4/8/2015 at 5:07 PM

Pam Karp,

I have made the Dutch version multilingual and am going to suggest that the tags of the Dutch version be added to the English version.

Kevin Lawrence Hanit

Thank you for tagging one to the other though I am not sure that is the most efficient way to do. We only need the one list of names in any of the future resistance fighters' names.

Just asking if you think we need an German or Italian version of one of the
Holocaust projects, with names duplicated? Simply translating the intro or complete narrative would allow for the most collaborative effort from all of us.

I will create an umbrella project for WW2 Resistance Fighters today.

There are already a number of Resistance projects on Geni..., one of which is :

Sorry, Am unable to give you the other links. Working on iPad I keep losing this text while copy pasting the other project links,. They all display under "search projects".

4/8/2015 at 5:25 PM

Pam Karp,

Don't worry about it. There is in this case a good reason to have two mirror projects.

Please invite me into the umbrella project.

Wendi, we started the umbrella project some time back. And we are still only about 20-25 percent of the way.

We need to add groups for the countries listed, and countries not listed.

Kenneth Kwame Welsh, (C) Can you please include a link to the project here so we can help. Thanks!

Pam Karp I created this one because no one even knew the other one existed.... Well, I didn't know the other one existed at all until the first post in this thread. None of my highly active Dutch collaborators knew either.

I haven't translated the other project, but this is an open project for people to add those not officially recognized as resistance fighters on official lists such as my great aunt Kitty.

Interestingly, the names on this list largely from Wikipedia and those in the Dutch project do not intersect much....

4/8/2015 at 10:43 PM

We should combine the two into one more powerful project, don't you think?

Maybe also copy over the names into the one as well.

4/8/2015 at 10:44 PM

I added a 2nd cousin to the project.

4/8/2015 at 10:51 PM

We probably work with the most of the same Dutch collabs Private User. My team on the Dutch tree are all very active though not necessarily Jewish.

By the nature of the name ".The Dutch Jewish Genealogy group" comprises a highly active and committed collection of users.

Pam Karp let's discuss privately. I'm not sure how I feel about it. The language the projects are done in seen to be a barrier of entry to some extent. I had no idea the Dutch language project existed. Perhaps translation of projects is something Geni needs to consider in order for work not to be duplicated. In no way to I mean to put down or demean the Dutch language project, but I would have never searched for a project name in Dutch.

Umbrella project here.....

Edit as you see fit, I find that Projects always take on a life of their own.

Wendi, happy to chat anytime. Will message you.

Good to see non Dutch made the decision.

4/11/2015 at 11:37 PM

Hmmmm, theoretically, we could thus have the same project 100 times over in 100 different languages? The logic escapes me.

Private
4/11/2015 at 11:41 PM

Me too, cannot get my head around it why it is good to have 2 the same projects where it could be easily solved by just some English explanation in the Dutch project. That Logic escapes me.

Private User I send you a PM I will take up your offer to curate the profiles as we al believe they should be curated by a Dutch curator one of the reasons for this is to answer queries in Dutch not all Dutch users speak English.

Private User

LOL Private User your remark ''I would have never searched for a project name in Dutch.''' made me chuckle, to me it makes a lot of sense that a Dutch project is in the Dutch language. Us Dutch read and write in Dutch.

Private User

Maybe projects should have multiple language support like profiles. :)
