Conscription

Around the age of 20, Benjamin HOLLANDER, immigrated to the United States to avoid conscription, which required 25 years of Military service for Russia. Julia GITLIN immigrated in 1902 and the surname GITLIN was used. I had a conversation with Mildred KATZ (JACOBS) who had mentioned Julia GITLIN traveled from Odessa, and brought over 3 children Anne (Hesha) Gitlin Harry Getlin and Rose JACOBS (GITLIN) without proper documentation, but transported herself and 3 children into the United States.
