"Curator profile exchange: Colonial America" -- shall we test that out, see how it goes?

I'm happy to take MPs from England and went through at least 25 pages last night taking on what I could. Most of them seem to be US though so it's a big job for little effect.

Private User & Terry Jackson (Switzer)

Based on Terry's point, would it be easier / more useful / faster to filter into separate projects the NON US profiles ? A query might be able to be written, perhaps based on the curator, like what Morel & Kevin used above, to automate a project transfer.

I defer however to what others need. My own technique for re curating is to notice, when "tree cleaning," that the profile is a project member. This way I'm not taking on blindly; I'm already in the area.

I feel like this could end up being one of those discussions where we have so many good ideas for how to do it that we never actually do anything. So I'm just going to go ahead and start with something.

When I move a profile into that project, I'll delete them from the umbrella. That approach has worked really well when reorganizing huge projects in the past.

ashley thank you for showing initiative that is needed on geni more then u know... We have so many good ideas that go no where

One thing that would help me manage the list is if there were a way to:

1) customize columns {place of birth/death are key to me}

AND

2) be able to navigate to any page, e.g. page 125.

The problem now is when I go to page 125 (i.e. "?page=125") and then I customize the columns, the page goes back to 1.

Or if I customize the column first, then go to page 125, the customization is lost.

Perhaps someone has a tip for that.

Just to say that what helps me find profiles that fall within my scope is place of birth/death. {I would love place of marriage too.} A separate project/subproject may not be necessary in this case.

Private User, now that I see the "master project" and the "living americans" subproject that you did, I like it a lot. I think you might have found the way to make profile exchange much easier to navigate.

Well done Ashley. I'll visit again when real life is less busy.

Living Americans subproject is done. Now working on Ancient World: https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-Ancient-Worl...

Yay!

Current subprojects:

https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-Ancient-Worl...

https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-Colonial-Ame...

https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-Hawai-ians/3...

https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-Living-Ameri...

It would make me very happy if others helped where possible. The only subproject that's complete is Living Americans. If you want to help add to the others or create the subprojects for your areas, that would be wonderful. I can say off-hand that we have a lot of French, medieval, and nobility profiles to reassign.

I will take all the ancient profiles.

I didn't know you worked in that area, Jason. Not a part of the tree I really know!

If you find ANY profiles that look Biblical, I ask that you tell me and I'll gladly curate them. I know Justin had a lot of them.

Shmuel-Aharon Kam (Kahn / שמואל-אהרן קם (קאן, I've been putting them into the Ancient World subproject, so you might have to check with Jason Scott Wills.

Could someone create a subproject of European MP swap candidates.
Maybe a subproject of Asia, Slavic and African should be also helpfull.

I gave up on organizing the subprojects because they weren't being utilized. Sorry. Too much work for one person.

These are the existing European subprojects:

- British People: https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-British-Peop...
- French Nobles: https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-French-Noble...

And the Ancient World project includes a lot of Europeans: https://www.geni.com/projects/Curator-Profile-Exchange-Ancient-Worl...

I would suggest avoiding a generic "European" category and instead focusing on specific countries. But again, it's only worthwhile if people actually use them.

I have moved today some profiles to the correct projects. And yes it is a lot of work just for one person, but giving up is not in my dictionary. I have so many little projects that just focus on the task and swap my focus. So some projects I will only visit once a month or less.

I must say I overlooked the French Nobles project. I will see if I can fill that or just empty that one.

But creating

I have checked and at the moment there are no swap projects focussing on specific countries. The most are focussing on time period or Continents.

At the moment there is more then 200 profiles in a project it becomes unmanageable.

BTW there are also non-MP in this project. What should we do with those?

I will create one for Africa as there are some African MP swap candicates.

I'm not sure what you mean...almost all of the subprojects are based on countries: British People, French Nobles, Living Americans, Colonial Americans, French-Canadiens, and Hawai'ians are the ones right off the top of my head. Please don't make a Europe-wide project. :/

The Americans subcategories are based on a continent. The past time I checked the American continent is still not one country.

If I make subprojects based on countries there will be a very large amount subprojects

They are not based on the North American or South American continents. They are based on the U.S. In English, unlike in Romance languages, that is what "America" refers to. Please do not put non-U.S. profiles into our American projects; that will create a headache for those of us working in those areas.

We only need subprojects when there are enough profiles from a country to actually necessitate one. For most European countries, no subproject is needed because we only have a handful of profiles (if any).

If you stick to countries and thematic topics, don't create unnecessary projects, and use common sense, it's really not hard.

But again, I would strongly urge you to consider whether anyone will use the projects anyway before making additional ones. We said we'd use them in the past, and then we didn't. No one had commented here in two years before you revived this thread. Consider waiting a week or two to see if anyone else weighs in before you decide whether this would be the best use of your time.

We’ve been getting un serviced requests for Italian and Spanish language notables. I would MP & add to project if there was an obvious one. As is, we’re not meeting member (quite reasonable) requests in a timely fashion. What would be a solution ?

Are you Erica suggesting that we create a project so members can add italian and spanish MP requests.
At Ashley a cooldown period of a week is good.

I do not know where to add MP profiles of Italians and Spanish where I believe they will be re - MPd.

(And of course not necessarily the same projects!)

Erica Howton, we have so few curators in those areas that I would just tag them. If you're getting a lot, you could start a "request an MP" thread in both the Spanish and Italian portals, like we did with the French portal, and ask the relevant curators to follow.

I would love to create a project for it, but it would be a very empty project as I will take any Italian or Spahish profiles. Maybe not all the Spanish profiles as the spanish family names are better handled by a native Spanish speaking curator. If someone wants to swap them please give a call and I will take the modern ones. The medival ones I just want too lose. Speaking of swapping I have some MP I want to swap but I'm not going to place them again in the big swap project.

If I place one in them I will take two or more in them so the number goes down.
