My cousin, @Nan Carder, recently called my attention to the fact that the offspring of her first cousin, once removed, [Melvin B. Wallerstein '''Melvin B. Wallerstein'''] had duplicate entries in Hebrew characters, which she couldn't read. Manager Shoshani (איתן שושני) seems to be the one who entered the duplicates. I wrote to him + the other managers, asking him to merge, but I ended up doing it myself for most of them.
Is there a Geni policy about entering duplicates in other languages or alphabets? Though not an advocate of "English only" myself, I would hope that we could all have a common language, unless communicating within specific groups.

Umm, As a Curator are you not aware of Geni's multi language support for the name fields?

That probably happened right before Judith Berlowitz became a curator.

The best people to see are Shmuel-Aharon Kam (Kahn / שמואל-אהרן קם (קאן, Rafi Kornfeld (c), Yigal Burstein and other Israeli curators who routinely work on multi-language profiles with Hebrew.

Since I have Hebrew on the iPhone, but not iMac, I have been avoiding this ;)

Judith Berlowitz Hatte Blejer (absent until Nov 1) the user Judith mentioned Shoshani (איתן שושני) is known for duplicating profiles and giving them Hebrew names. In the last weeks I was asked by a fellow Israeli curator to merge several profiles he duplicated. This fellow curator could not merge them because Shoshani blocked her. And I think he blocked some other curators as well. At the moment I am not blocked and can merge almost daily.
And I did not tag him, here to not wake up the sleeping....

Thanks Rafi Kornfeld (c). I recognize the name.

Thanks, all - My problem was not so much with the language as with the unnecessary duplication/replication. He had done the same with another branch of this tree and I was able to merge the profiles.

Sounds like this is a situation where 1) someone is purposely creating duplicates - that they know are duplicates - which I believe is a no-no, and possibly actionable/reportable - AND 2) sort of trying to hide them - perhaps to keep management of those copies? - by naming in Hebrew.

Very different from someone who speaks Hebrew choosing to use Hebrew, or someone choosing to use Hebrew characters for a Profile which would have used those characters itself. And others, who speak English, having Profiles for the same folks with the name in English.

The first post read (to me, anyway) like it was the second situation - or the second situation that was being objected to. Not sure how one distinguishes except by seeing a history on individual experience basis.
