Watch out for these guys - there are A LOT of them. Some may be related - most will not be. The Waters Y-DNA Project is very scattershot, with entries under E, H, I, J (three non-matching), R1, R1a (mostly mismatching), R1b (five distinct lineages and many non-matching).
It is necessary to check *very carefully* to make sure that relationship connections are at least somewhat plausible - e.g no bouncing about from Somersetshire to Northamptonshire to Lancashire, etc. (Of course, anybody might at any time wind up in London - all roads led there.)
This one is another MISconnection: John Waters
Since the attached record says that John Waters married Alice Getlande at Hastings, Sussex, England, it is less likely that they were both born and died in Eastcote, Northamptonshire (and very possible that somebody mash-merged two or more John Waters).
This is also NOT the John Waters who was the son of William Waters and Alice Canon of Hertfordshire - they've had many false attachments just because people are so grabby and snatchy for ancestors.
The About section says:
Who this John Waters was (and if his name was really John Waters), his dates and places of birth and death, and his relationship, if any, to other Waters families, are all unknown. He has been identified with the John Waters who married Alice Getlande, but this is doubtful and unsupported.
....those notes and the previous comments indicate this John Waters shouldn't be connected to the parents he is and probably his profile should be locked to prevent further erroneous connections that are giving false pathways on Geni.
I would like to call people's attention to the commuting suburb of Eastcote, Greater London, formerly known as "Ascot" (and not to be confused with the location of the famous racecourse, in Berkshire). It is particularly well placed to house a bunch of Londoners, as these people appear to be.
These appear to be the two clearly ascertainable facts regarding Alice Getlande: Alice was baptized on December 27 1593, in Rotherfield, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom. Alice married John Waters on September 1 1606, at age 14 in All Saints, Hastings, Sussex, England.
There is no Eastcote or Eastcott in Sussex, but there is an EastBOURNE, on the Channel coast in reasonable proximity to Hastings. (Rotherfield is also about a medieval day's journey northwest of Hastings.)
The rule when dealing with pre-1800 people (i.e. before easy and convenient travel) is to look first in the same town, then in neighboring towns, then within the County, and only then consider looking outside the area. Drastic relocation *not* connected with colonizing should always be a major red flag requiring careful investigation.
Somebody paid no attention, and/or a bad GEDCOM ran out of control, and here we are with another big mess.
The John Waters who married Alice Getland is NO KNOWN RELATION to Lt. Edward Waters of the "Sea Venture".
His parents are NOT KNOWN.
MIDDLE NAMES ARE EXTREMELY RARE BEFORE ABOUT 1600, AND NONEXISTENT BEFORE ABOUT 1550!!!
