Martha Ann Haggett, age 72, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2004, surrounded by family and friends at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash., following complications associated with a stroke.

She was born in Butte on July 3, 1931, to Charles Owen and Martha (Mertz) Smithers, also longtime residents of Butte. Martha was married twice and had five children.

Martha was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Martha's other interests include church service, art, photography, quilting, gardening, family reunions, genealogy, music, cooking and keeping in touch with family and friends. She will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, Herbert A. Haggett Jr. She is survived by four children: Mr. and Mrs. Christian J. Haggett, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy O. Haggett, Charles S. Haggett Martha Shaun Haggett; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Mr. and Mrs. C. Owen Smithers.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints Chapel on Whitefish Stage Road, Kalispell. Visitations will be held Thursday, March 18, from 4-6 p.m. at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the LDS Church. Burial will follow at the C E Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.
