For a couple of months I've pondered on when someone would come up with a pedigree connecting people living today to the 11 slaves detailed in this Project. I thought it would be a long time coming....

Well, I've found one... It's not (direct) blood..., but the links are close.
Susan Hyatt is Antonio Cleyn's stepson's wife's 9th great granddaughter. Antonio is one of the original 11 slaves.

The full relationship path is: http://www.geni.com/c/a3d8d21a5ccd1bd320e40fdb6392df0a51e598f3

I've just begun to mine cyberspace for the details on intermediate tree members. The most fascinating ones so far are:

1. Captain Jan de Vries &
2. Jan's wife Lare (or Hilary) Criolyo
3. Jan & Hillary's son Jan de Vries (II) who was one of the very few blacks ever to benefit from a land patent on behalf of the English Crown.

The urls for these three are:
[Lare (or Hilary) Criolyo '''Hilary''']
[Captain Jan de Vries '''Captain Jan''']
[Jan de Vries, (II) '''Jan (the son of Jan & Hilary)''']

As I made connections & merges between three source trees I've come across questions:
The main one is....
1) How did the surname De Vries become Hyatt?

2) I often wonder if black and mixed heritage blood lines remain intentionally under-documented in many family trees.

Hope many will be interested in the details as a more complete story emerges.
