Richard Brooks, keep in mind that there are other descendants of George Smith, of Dover Neck that are not related to James Smith, of Oyster River. If you change George Smith, of Dover Neck, you're changing him for everyone. It sounds like what you need / want is to have have James Smith, of Oyster River disconnected from that ancestry - is that correct? Or does this effect all the currently listed siblings of James?
For example, my ancestor is Rebecca Marie Adams and you just removed the name of her father. So I just want to make sure you're doing it because it effects all the children and not just because it effects James. If it just effects James, we need to disconnect him from that line so as not to disrupt the other descendants.
Just found: 3/14/2015 sat............GOOGLE BOOKS:.......Early Encounters: Native American and Europeans in New England ...from the papers of W.Sears Nickerson....Chapter on HOW THE SMITH'S CAME TO CAPE COD: Mary Smith of Oyster River....................................the book is by Delores Bird Carpenter @1994.................found it on the Internet......don't have the book.
I had added notes to the profile of James Smith of Oyster River:
There was a George Smith, son of Thomas, who died in Ipswich in 1661 and another George Smith who died 15 Dec 1674. His will mentions wife, unnamed, and children, Thomas, Samuel, Sarah, Newman, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Joanna.
Not a shred of evidence has been found that George Smyth was the father of James Smith and Joseph Smith of Oyster River, nor that the two last were related at all.
comment: however, it appears that DNA test results match between George & Joseph. See ftDNA Smith group R-M269

So Richard, I agree with your conclusion. Good find on the book - I'll try to upload it as an additional citation.
Please don't erase names, it makes it more difficult to correct the genealogy. Pro's & curators & profile managers can disconnect relationships - that's the way we correct a shared tree.
Private User of course this affects your ancestry -- would you like to do the honors? I would recommend "unknown parent" Master Profile placeholders also, as the genealogist James Savage's "perhaps son of George" has apparently carried more weight than historian Stackpole's "no evidence."
I went ahead, did the disconnect, and added the "unknown parents" of James Smith. Richard, I sent you management requests for those profiles so you can help others be clear!
Jeff, I misspoke above: your Rebecca (Smith) Adams does have known (if remarkably obscure) parents. She was named in the will of George Smith of Dover Neck:
"There was a George Smith, son of Thomas, who died in Ipswich in 1661 and another George Smith who died 15 Dec 1674. His will mentions wife, unnamed, and children, Thomas, Samuel, Sarah, Newman, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Joanna."
Still haven't figured out where the wife name of "Temperance" comes from. Does the name repeat in the Adams descent?
