Ok, this was strange. This is where I have my information from: http://www.aal-bygdebok.no/005003-.htm - in Norwegian, though. It is the book for the farms and families in Ål. In this book, it says, "Hermann Olson Vestenfor, b 19.nov 1881, left for America 1904, to Kindred, ND. Probably married 1917 with Clara..., lived in Canada as H. Torpe." Where do you have your information from? Might have been two different Hermann Torpes of course. Though your reference to Sire is interesting since Vestenforslåtta is under Sire. Parents in my reference are Ole Olson Sirerudningen Vestenfor and Birgit.

Hermann Olson Vesleslåtta 01.10.1832-1872 and Margit Holgesdtr. Hallfardokken Vesleslåtta 15.09.1828- had the children Ola Hermannson Vesleslåtta 28.05.1858-1925, Anne Hermannsdtr. Vesleslåtta 16.12.1859-, Helge Hermannson Vesleslåtta 15.04. 1862-, Hermann Hermannson Vesleslåtta 04.11.1865-, Embrik Hermannson Vesleslåtta 22.09.1870-.

The brother Hermann has some illness and Ola took care of him. Ola married Anna Vebjørnsen, Hardanger 1868-1945, they moved to Hardanger, Norway. It does not say if they had children. But Ola had a child with Guri Andersdtr Sire: Hermann 1888- , who left for America, it says.

Now which of these two Hermann Torpes is the one that was married to Clara Anette Kvill?

The Find a Grave record shows that he was born 1888.
The Canada census records have him arriving in 1909(one says 1910).
Guri Andersdatter Sire Torpe, moved to the same area in Canada with her husband Ole Torpe in 1910.
1916 Canada census shows Herman living with Halvor Torpe "brother". Halvor was son of Guri and Ole Torpe. Here is Guri and Ole Haakensen Torpe in the 1900 Norway census http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/en-gb/ft/person/pf01037115000255 (note the farm name).

I normally trust the information in the Aal Bygdebok but it also needs verfication and in this case I think Herman Torpe is Herman Olson Sire born 1888.

After this it is hard to find them but does appear to be some records in Canada of both a Herman Braaten and a Torsten Braaten. So I think Herman Olsen Vestenfor b1881 went by the name Herman Olson Braaten. But I could be wrong.
