Appears that some are translating the surname SHAFEITZ, which may look like that when it is written in Hebrew but is not how it is written or pronounced in German or Hungarian. The name is usually written as SPITZ but in some familes it became SPITZER. Aron haLevi SPITZ was my 4G grandfather. His son Markusz haLevi SPITZ (1796-1853) was my 3G grandfather and maternal grandfather of my great-grandmother Ottilie POLACSEK NEUMANN (1844-1915).

Spitz is the name, pronounced Shpitz. "Shafeitz" is a mis-transliteration. This is not a guess, we have plenty of records showing the spelling.

I agree! How do we convince those who manage the trees with the incorrect transliteration to make this important revision?
