Niv - can you post a link to the profile you're asking about, please? Thank you.

Hi, I'll try to explain. Ni Nivi Katz successfully merged the profile of the husband of my maternal aunt ( the profile he mentioned above of Yossi Yakoby).
When Ni Nivi clicks on my uncle's profile, Geni properly shows he is the first cousin twice removed of my uncle.
When I click on that profile, Geni also shows the link properly as Yossi Yakoby being my uncle ( via my maternal aunt).
The problem we need help with is that, somehow, Geni does not follow that direct path when we click on each other's profile.
Instead, Geni goes through a very convoluted link ( with 30 + layers) via my father's half- sister.
Why? Since it appears we've merged profiles properly of the Yakoby family, why is the path not properly reflected? Is there a broken link somewhere on Geni?
What I would expect when I click on Niv Nivi Katz' s profile is that Geni would provide the link in a more direct manner . Ie.) that he is the first cousin twice removed of my Uncle. Period.
Thanking you in advance for your help Erica !

Ni Nivi, not technically " an aunt". If there were a lineage ( blood relation) it would be at most a second cousin once removed? But probably not, because from what I know of genealogy " cousin lineage" only applies when it's not via marriage ( of my maternal aunt's in-laws). Erica will confirm if I am correct on that.

Ah that's very helpful. It sometimes takes time and a manual "boost" to help Geni computers find the closest relationship: see this project for more explanations -

http://www.geni.com/projects/Working-with-Relationships/17570

I saw a "recalc" icon when I visited Yossi's profile, it looks like two arrows chasing each other in a circle. So I pressed it to refresh, and then used the pushpin tool. I get:

Nathalie Cohen is Yossi Yakoby's wife's niece.

But I'm not getting a path from Yossi to Niv.

Hmm ... That doesn't seem right. Let me look more & get back to you.

Itai Meshulam or Rafi Kornfeld (c) if available to also look?

Thanks! What's odd is that when I click on my Uncle's ancestors, the path is correct ( via my maternal aunt). Ie.) this is what it properly shows for his father:

Yitzhak Yakoby is your uncle's father.

I know Yossi father Yitzhak is my grandmother's uncle

Erica, in answer to your question, Geni says the following about my link to your first query:
Itai Jack Meshulam is your uncle's great niece's husband's second cousin thrice removed's wife's brother's wife's first cousin once removed.

Erica, re) your 2nd query:
Rafi Kornfeld is your first cousin once removed's wife's sister's husband's uncle's wife's sister's husband's second great aunt's husband's brother's wife's sister's husband's second great nephew.

Both are via my father ( like the Yakoby link).
Does Geni have a bias towards providing links via paternal path ??? Ha ha ha

Ni Niv

It "did" need recalculatng after the merge. I now see

Yossi Yakoby is Niv Nivi Katz's first cousin twice removed.
http://www.geni.com/path/Niv-Nivi-Katz+is+related+to+Yossi-Yakoby?f...

Yossi Yakoby is Nathalie Cohen's uncle.

I think we're fixed ? !

Both Nathalie and Niv are distantly related to me, but Nathalie is related via my wife and Niv via my mother. As Erica wrote it seems the relationship path should now be cleared and somewhat simpler.
If you need my help, I am here, in Israel.

Thank you both for help Mrs. Erica and Mr. Rafi

Indeed, thank you both Erica and Rafi.
As I mentioned above, when Niv reached out to you, the issue focused on the convoluted relationship path between our two profiles.
However, Geni correctly showed my relationship path to my Uncle ( 3 relatives). And, Niv's path correctly showed his relationship to my uncle ( 5 relatives).
However, even after trying the " Push-Pin" method you suggested , our mutual relationship is still via a convoluted 35 tier relationship.

The only thing I can think of is that it may be a " cache" issue and simply a matter of the Geni software needing more time to " absorb" the profile merge Niv and I worked on just this week?

In the helpful links Erica provided, I read that this sometimes happens. I'll wait a couple of weeks and perhaps the relationship path recalculation will adjust after this recent merge of profiles. We were concerned we had goofed somewhere on the recent profile merge!

I'll keep you posted! Thank you.

Yes, there was indeed a cache, and the recalculation forced a clearing of the cache. However your "own" computer could have cached the page! So it wouldn't hurt to clear your browser cache now ... I do it regularly to keep my Geni as "real time" as possible.

I just cleared the cache and even did a full shutdown and restart ...... still no refresh. Poor Niv and I are still just 37 times removed vs. 8. But at least we know we merged things correctly and that's what matters.
And now I have to re-enter my Login info. on Amazon, Netflix, iTunes etc. etc.. Clearing the Cache is a good idea but kind of a nuisance !
Thanks for your help.

Generally, before wiping out the entire cache of your browser you can try a CTRL-F5 on a Windows machine to force a cache wipe of the contents of the page you are on. On a Mac you can press SHIFT-CMD-R to get the same results.

Thank you for the very helpful instructions on clearing the cache Jonathan.

Also, good news to everyone : the relationship path between Niv Nivi Katz is currently showing the correctly!
After clicking an icon ( small grey circle) appearing next to the old content, Geni " searched" the path once again in a minute and recalculated it to " my uncle's first cousin twice removed "!
I didn't see that icon when I last logged in Feb 15th.

Thank you all for your help !
