I accepted a pending merge - to a claimed (semi-claimed?) profile that was managed by two other people (option of "Abandoned Tree" available for profile itself, and at least the Primary listed manager - who Geni says is 1st Cousin to the Profile) - the person is my "second cousin once removed" - currently I am shown as person who added the profile - but not as a manager.
WHY AM I NOT SHOWN AS A MANAGER OF MY SECOND COUSIN ONCE REMOVED after a merge with a Profile of his I added and managed, and for which others are shown as the manager? Is this a Bug, or ??
I also notice that I do not see "Manager Options" available for this Profile. Is that a Bug or ???
Claimed profiles does not have managers at all, - it is the user him/her self that are the manager and the only one that have access to edit. Just check your own profile, - and you don't have a managers entry either.
However: If the profile is not fully claimed (like permanent password set) there might be some managers listed.
Internally there does however exist such a list, which becomes visible again if the user close the account and release the profile.
Private User - I understand about fully claimed Profiles where the person manages his own profile and is the only one who can edit it. Apparently you missed that this is not one of those.
As I stated above - the profile that was merged with "my version" was a "profile that was managed by two other people" (neither of them being the user himself) - and that is still the case. I was shown as Manager of my version - I was not added as manager of the merged version, but I now have access to edit the merged profile (so no, in this case the user himself is not the only one who can edit the profile). So - Why am I not now shown as one of the Managers???!!
Private User - I said it was a claimed or semi-claimed profile - I DID NOT SAY IT WAS A FULLY CLAIMED PROFILE - the blue box shows around the profile picture in tree view, and there is a date he joined. BUT - OTHERS ARE LISTED AS MANAGER, OTHERS (including myself) CAN EDIT THE PROFILE AND OTHERS CAN APPROVE MERGES OF IT. Had it been fully claimed, it could not have been merged without his okay - and he still shows "Abandoned Tree" under Actions - so he did not approve the merge.
I have experience merging supposedly claimed profiles that have others showing as managers - so in fact probably semi-claimed - and in those instances my name was always added as a Manager.
Well, then what is a semi-claimed profile according to your definition and what is the base for your claim that is should act as an unclaimed profile which I have said several times that is does not.
You can consider it as an error that you even see managers on it, but you will not find any definition of a semi-claimed profile in the Geni hep section.
Private User - I used the term "semi-claimed" - you used the phrase "not fully claimed" - if you prefer the term "not fully claimed" - then fine.
According to your understanding -1) Why can I edit the Profile? 2) Why could it be merged without any input from the user? 3) Why are two folks (and not the user) shown as managers of the profile? -- 3) should any of these features be true of a fully-claimed profile?
I am quite familiar with claimed profiles which show as having managers.
I have seen a number of mergers of claimed profiles showing managers - and in every instance except the one mentioned above, the merged profile has shown as managers both the managers that were listed on the original claimed profile, and the managers of the profile it was merged with.
Is it easier to understand if we conclude: The fact that you can see some managers and can edit _some_ fields on a claimed profile is an error and therefore you cannot trust that list?
Yes, technically the profile is halfway either claimed or unclaimed (that happens too), i.e. the user does not have full access to it either. When seeing such profiles you can send the user a message and ask him/her to try to set a permanent password, which is the last step in claiming a profile.
Most likely the account is permanently abandoned or inaccessible because of bad or closed email account) and the only way to recover it if the user want to be active again is for him/her to contact customer support. Even if you are listed as a manager on it or not there is nothing you can do. It is the user him/her self that have to take that initiative.
You will not find any information about this state in the FAQ, and whether you are listed as manager or not does not matter either, simply because it is a claimed profile, where the Send Message to Managers and Manager options is naturally missing, so you cannot interact as a manager on it.
Bjorn - As I mentioned, in the past I have been added as manager in such merges -- so I assumed that was how it was supposed to work. I would be willing to PM you a link to one, if you will agree to not change it - just look - so you might understand why I was so surprised by what happened this time.
