I would like to clarify a mistaken death date for the above referenced Lewis Carlton. In genealogy files of family genealogists, Lewis M Carlton's death date is listed as 12 Aug 1862 as the Lewis Carlton of Wilkes Co NC. The date is the death date for Alfred Carlton's son, Lewis C Carlton, b. 1832 in Tennessee.
Lewis Carlton born in North Carolina is not found after the 1860 census, so therefore he died after 1860.
See Sources below.
Lewis C Carlton is buried in a common grave of soldiers who were wounded at Corinth, MS & died at Enterprise MS which was a collective hospital for the wounded.

For clarification, it appears thath the "Lewis C Carlton" you've referenced is the same person as this Geni profile of "John Lewis Carlton": Pvt Lewis C. Carlton
Other sources show either Lewis, Lewis C., or John Lewis as first/middle name for this person. Do you have any idea where the reference to "John" came from, or if perhaps it's a mistake carried over from somewhere else?
