discussion in regard to @ Leonardus Van Meldert from his profile page . I do not have any other info in regard to him beyond what is displayed in his profile . I hope I'm doing this correctly. Homer Dale Melder Thanks Dale.

You did this right, anyone can now view the profile. Now let's try and keep this one single discussion for easiest reading, so reply to "this" discussion.

Private User any suggestions on investigating parents for him & his wife?

Others welcome to add comments for this early immigrant to America from Belgium.

Erica and Homer,
I looked at the profile of Leonardus Van Meldert and then tried to find him using Google search but couldn't. According to the information which Homer Dale Melder added the Geni boom Leonardus was born around 1625 in Haacht and also died in Haacht which is now a part of Belgium. At the bottom of the site you can see where the information comes from

I then looked for his son Egidius Van Meldert.

The information for him and his wife Barbara, is in English, and might have been found at http://users.skynet.be/van.meldert/van_meldert_egidius.htm. The informaion looks, at first glance, to be reliable and informative and well researched.

I'll take another look tomorrow to see if I can find a some reference to Leonardus and more ancestors.

(Reposting to correct typo's)

Ann - thank you, that's very helpful.

Private User your next lesson! Post back to "this" discussion instead of starting a new one. You use "reply" to open up the typing box, and then "post reply" (the blue box underneath the typing box). That way we have a continuing thread on the same topic, which makes it easier to follow.

Erica you stated that making the page private was probably not the best way to set it. As it would be unfair to others ,what settings would you suggest to open this page to those that want to contribute without overrunning the site ?
And what controls am I able to maintain with in this setting?

Just so we're clear on "pages" and so on.

You have posted to a "public" discussion on a "public / historic" profiles. There are multiple ways to access this (thead) again, and add to it as need be.

2/5/2015 at 9:26 AM

(continued)

Deceased profiles "default" as public. You can, if you like, set "near family" as private.

We have Leonardus van Meldert designated a Master Profile. This protects the known data points from degradation and gives a focal point for "adding" facts and additional family nodes.

This discussion about his genealogy travels with his profile (discussion tab) "and also" is accessible from http://www.geni.com/discussions?discussion_type=followed

So we're good. No change needed! Just more research and perhaps profile adding.

Then you are saying my present settings are good unless I want make the distinction between deceased ancestors as public and close family members as private ,right.

Correct. Your tree looked good to me (the minor corrections we made). You are ready to progress it, taking advantage of the tools Geni has on offer, including a collaborative platform.

Ann whatever modus operandi you choose suites me , I would just be happy If someone could crack this brick wall. However let me give you a bit more info, there is a site titled the Lords of Meldert you can probably google it , if not I will attempt to send you a link. It begins if I remember correctly with Iwein van Meldert dating back to 1279 and goes thru the line to Lybrecht who dies in1484 and has no legitimate son to claim his estate . His wife Katherine spends the next 28 years carrying out his wishes in regard to gifts grants and endowments to different people and institutions She passes away in 1512 and thus ends the van Meldert lineage or at least this branch of it. Bear in mind now that Leonardus birth year is shown as 1625 and we are speaking of a one hundred thirteen years separating the two. I will try to get you a address where Katherine and Lybrecht lived during the latter part of their lives.

Lybrecht and Catherine lived in a building located at the corner of St Anthony Berg and Naanestreet or rue de Preevot in Leuven intheir latter years.

Erica , I just noticed that my Social Sharing is on ,who does this allow to view my tree and what access does that allow those that can view my tree? Sorry about all the questions just want understand how things are set and gain an understanding of what I might expect. I don't want the time and effort of all those involved to search my tree and make the needed additions ,corrections to go to waste . I might mention I have a small investment in time here as well LOL

Ann ,I noticed yesterday how close the spelling of your last name is to part of my family from Belgium . Marie Theresa Vandermuelen.

Erica I noticed in one of your earlier post you referred to Leonardus as an early immigrant to America ,just to be accurate it was Petrus VaN Meldert who first migrated to the USA in 1835 .It was Petrus and his wife and four sons ..His wife's name was Isabella van Meldert Dehert, their sons names were Josephus ,Felix , Joannes Ludivicus, Franciscus Desiderus .There was another expected as they sailed from Antwerp ,Belgium March ,24th,1835,arrived in New York ,USA June ,11,1835 .Theresa Van Meldert was born in La ,USA 9-3- 1835- dies 10-23-1835. So Isabela made this journey while expecting a child .

Hi Dale

I don't use social sharing myself; I believe it provides view access to Geni trees on external platforms such as Facebook & Twitter. Check the FAQ through the help link at the bottom of every Geni page, perhaps it has more details. I "am" sure it would be view only as only Geni members can work with Geni profiles.

2/6/2015 at 5:20 PM

PS I think also you would have to "push" a link from Geni. In other words, if you wanted family on Facebook to see this little family group, you'd share out the link on FB & define who on FB sees it through your own FB settings.
