Tree Tops?

On most of the other Polish town projects I have worked on I have started adding a list of tree tops for each family surname in the project. The about section of this project has a lot of good verbiage that I don't want to mess with, but I generally find the surname listing very helpful. Does anyone have an opinion, or should I go ahead and start- it is usually easier to start earlier rather than later if that is what we decide to do.

Would you please give us a link or two to examples of some of the other towns with Tree Tops already started. Thanks!

(the Krakow project is not mine, but it is an amazing example of how one of these town projects can be done).

I looked at your examples Seth. It's a very helpful addition to have active links to the people in the smaller towns. I tried adding the names in the profile section, but they are not active so it's not so helpful as active links would be. See Babimost/Bomst.

So , go ahead and start!

I do worry about time constraints on these, shall we say, side issues of classification of people, detracting from the actual addition of people to Geni.

Dan, a good point. I have found that adding proiles to a project at the time of profile creation adds only a fraction of time to the process. It would be very nice if you could add to a project directly as you create the profile or from lists of proflies, but that is not an option yet.

Honestly, I think building the lists can actually save time because it allows you to easily jump back into a tree when you have forgotten which of the multiple spellings of surname you used. For example with the Weinberg family you see Weinberg, Wajnberg, Waynberg, Wejnberg etc. If you search for Abram Weinberg you will not get Abram Wajnberg but if you have a link to the tree top you can simply drop in on the family you wanted and walk through the tree.

I'm in favor of having the tree tops, which is how we started with the Krakow project. I agree, it's much easier than having to either use Geni Search or page through scores of profiles in the project.

We do this for the early settlers of pre-Revolutionary America as well.

Looks like those who are interested are in agreement. I will work on it shortly.

I also did that for my project on the late Rabbi Malcolm H. Stern's First American Jewish Families.

Ok, I think I got all of them done. If I missed anyone let me know.
