Is there a source for this birthdate? Surely it can't be accurate for Anna Elisabeth, because if it is it means she was 10 yrs old when she got married and 12 when she had her first child!?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Beth.
Looking at the ages of her two husbands: P vd Westhuizen b1718 and C Brits b1732 it seems her date of birth now given as 1753 might be wrong. Looking at the timeline of her father, J van Eck, there are gaps in the dates of birth of his children in 1742, 1744, 1746-7 where she might fit in. But I have no sources that can give us certainty at this stage. Maybe somebody else has?

HI Beth,
Unfortunately in the begiing of SA history and for many years after the baptism ates where used. Due to the long distances of traveling and the seldomly seen of ministers, on the day that they were around everything happened. Baptisms, marraiges, etc. So the baptism records were all that was around and a lot of time it went through as a birthdate although a child/ren caoul have been baptised from aged 1 day to 18 years. I am sure t should read ca but that is all we have to go on.

Thank you, Judi and Christiaan. Sorry I'm so late in replying. I wasn't able to get back online until now.

That all makes a lot of sense, but it is a great pity we don't have actual birth dates, or at least birth years. That can even be a problem in modern times though, so its not too surprising. Hopefully, someone will turn up something to help us get to a more accurate date in the future.

I must better also state here that SAF has it wrong it was not C Brits b1732 whom married her and had children, but C Brits 1746...
